I'm Michael — an IT leader with more than 25 years behind me, recognised by Computing in 2025 & 2026 as one of the Top 100 IT Leaders in the UK. My career started on the service desk and now runs to Head of digital, data & technology for a major local authority in Essex.
Most of the last two decades have been in the public sector, with stretches in the MSP world and private enterprise along the way. The consistent thread is driving digital transformation: cloud migrations, Microsoft 365 deployments, virtualisation and Azure work — and, just as importantly, the cultural shifts that decide whether any of it sticks.
What I'm working on
Right now I'm leading a large-scale transformation focused on the back- and front-office systems of a local council: simplifying a sprawling estate, consolidating to a core of three to four strategic suppliers, and unlocking the value sitting in the data — all inside the real constraints of public-sector budgets.
Off the clock
Home is just outside Norwich, Norfolk, with my wife, three dogs and a cat. When I'm not in front of a system you'll find me with Lego, a book, something on the hob, or an ever-expanding self-hosting habit. I'm a Fellow of the BCS and a Chartered IT Professional.
